Gossip and Snippets!

Fiona Powell was a student in the early 80’s and particularly interested in sheep and their welfare. Sometime in the 90’s she left these shores for Pennsylvania and the land of her birth – she is American! She is especially gifted in the art of folklore and is teaching this subject at a college local to her in Williamsport supported by several Arts Programmes from Pennsylvania. Fiona goes from strength to strength as a raconteur, story teller and broadcaster.

From the College Report Steve Jones – a Welshman with considerable farming and further education experience, is the new Farm Manager at Rodway Farm. He is working closely with the Agriculture, Countryside and Food Section of the College. As with the Governments’ proposals to trace food from field to plate with due accord given to environmental issues, the interaction between these three teaching areas will reflect in new practical initiatives to be implemented as part of the long term and overall plan for the Farm and Countryside estate.

Another ex-Dorset ex-student in the same period was Clive Groves, whom I had the pleasure of meeting again on his flourishing Garden Centre and Nursery at Bridport.

There was a mysterious card from ‘Sam’ Bendall ‘Old’ students may remember his helping out at Open Days with publishing the OSA – I think it involved Teddy Bears in some way!

Lines from Ken Dingle reveal that he continues to work on four days a week

I am glad to say that I am in regular contact with Keith Sims (staff from 1970’s to recent years) who has been minding my garden tools in his garage, shortly to hand them back now that I have a half size allotment at Alcombe (near Minehead, Somerset)
